Glee: Britney 2.O Recap/Review
Season premieres set up expectations for the viewer. We hope that each episode will be just as good but unfortunately this was not the case for Glee's 'Britney 2.O'. The episode had it's moments, however overall I feel like it fell flat. Firstly, this episode is all about Brittany which I was happy about cause I loved Brittany in the last episode, she wasn't so fun in this episode though, maybe it was because she was depressed. Anyway, we started with a trademark Glee voice-over from Brittany but Brittany knowing about voice-overs and failing to do one is kind of like breaking the fourth wall, right? I'm not sure but Brittany starts singing 'Hold It Against Me', I thought this was such a weird song choice and it was too short. But that Doesn't matter, what matters is Happyville! Brittany failed her Math test because she answered the questions on her test by drawing a picture of Happyville where Math doesn't exist. I wanna move to Happyville, it looks fun.
After Sue (there wasn't enough Sue in this episode either) tells Brittany that she can no longer be a cheerleader because she is failing, Brittany has a video chat with Santana. Yay! Santana! But hold on, before you get too excited, this is all we see of Santana in the whole episode, just a stupid video chat. I can't even! Ugh! However, back to the plot, like Brittany, Rachel has also got some bad news from Cassandra, apparently Rachel isn't sexy enough. Is it just me or does Cassandra seem drunk in this scene and every scene of this episode? Maybe Kate Hudson is just getting into character?
Moving back to McKinley, Brittany has become depressed and it's up to Mr. Schuester and Miss Pillsbury to save her from her funk. Their solution is to bring back Britney cause why not? P.S. Did anyone notice that Jayma Mays is now credited as a guest star? How rude. I don't even get why Mr. Schuester would consider bringing back Britney week after the school assembly disaster that happened last time. But whatever, this is Glee. Blaine and Artie get everyone pumped for Britney week by singing a mash up of 'Boys' by Britney Spears and 'Boyfriend' by Justin Bieber. I thought this was another weird song choice but I got into the mash up.
We're then in Rachel and Kurt's new place of residence. I guess this means no more slutty roommates for Rachel. Does anyone know where Rachel and Kurt got those bicycles from and where did they go after this scene? Although, I thought it was kind of funny that they were riding around on bicycles in their new apartment. Kurt takes this opportunity to tell Rachel that the Glee club is doing Britney week again. It's so weird to see the two worlds mix like this but also fun. Also, Kurt informs Rachel that Cassandra is crazy, her back story was the weirdest, it reminded me of Kate Hudson in Raising Helen with the funny lady and her bat.
Unique stayed herself through-out this whole episode and didn't change back into that Wade person, I loved this cause you all know how I love me some Unique. Speaking of, Unique decides to tell Marley what a 'Womanizer' Jake is through song, this song makes more sense to the plot, finally. Cut back to New York, Rachel asks Brody to help her seem more sexy in Cassandra's class, Brody is starting to grow on me in this episode and I'm totally ready for this show to become all about Rachel and Kurt living in New York, I'm so over McKinley. But back at McKinley, Joe, Tina and Sam sing '3', I really liked the stripped-down acoustic version of this. However, Brittany makes this performance all about herself when she tries to shave her head like Britney Spears. This then turned into one of my favorite scenes of the episode as Brittany went crazy and attacked Jacob Israel with an umbrella and a student shouted "LEAVE BRITTANY ALONE!" I'm loving how Brittany's depression in this episode is mirroring Britney Spears' depression. Additionally, I'm loving Marley, I think she's so cute and when she said that she was going to sing '(You Drive Me) Crazy', I got so happy cause that's my favorite Britney song but I didn't like the mash up, I just wanted Britney's version, sorry Marley and Jake.
After the break, the Glee club has an intervention for Brittany but she's not hearing it. I then started to wonder how the new Glee club members aren't freaked out by Brittany, I mean she does seem kind of weird. Anywho, at NYDA Rachel performs 'Oops!... I Did It Again' and I loved it, good job Rachel. However, Cassandra did not love it and Rachel calls her jealous. Oh Rachel, last week you said she was drunk in the middle of class, this week you call her jealous, Rachel needs to learn how to filter. Also in Lima, Marley isn't having such a great time either, some jerks are making fun of her mom so Jake decides to take action. That fight scene looked so fake BTW. Mr. Schuester then gets involved by taking Jake to meet his half brother who we know as Puck. How ya doing Puck? Yeah, I don't really care. Basically I find the Puckerman brother storyline boring.
It's now time for the Glee club's pep assembly. Can we just talk about how inappropriate the Glee club's assemblies are? Do we remember 'Toxic'? Or 'Tik Tok'? Or 'Push It'? This time the Glee club performs 'Gimmie More', didn't like this performance, probably the worst of the night. Something then happens between Rachel and Cassandra, I'm not sure what but I think Cassandra forgives Rachel. Then Sam gives Brittany some advice like he did for Marley last episode, this boy looks too old to still be in high school. Moving along, Brittany gets herself back on the Cheerios cause she's class president so she can do whatever she wants. Kurt thinks that cake can solve every problem, I agree and Brody gives Rachel some flower, I think Brody and Rachel are cute (Finn who?) Marley totally wants Jake but Jake is with Kitty now, this girl is so annoying. Lastly, Marley closes this week's episode again with 'Everytime'. This episode wasn't as good as the season premiere or as good as the first Britney episode and I was so mad when there was no Amber Riley or more of Naya Rivera.
