Glee: Glee, Actually (Holiday Episode) Recap/Review
'Glee' joins '9O21O' and 'The Vampire Diaries' by having a festive episode this week. Sue begins the episode by telling us that this week will be a little different as it will feature five different stories that will link together at the end, hence the title of the episode 'Glee, Actually'. Artie is having a rough time as he believes that life would be much better if he were never in his wheelchair. So in a 'It's a Wonderful Life' type storyline, he learns that everyone is better off with him in his chair. Artie dreams all of this in black and white, yep another Christmas episode in black and white, here we go. In his dream, Rory (remember Rory from last season?) is his guide, I'm not gonna lie I was really happy to see Rory again. One of the most funniest parts of Artie's dream was that Rachel is a librarian at the McKinley high school. One of the worst parts was that Finn, Puck and Ryder were all jerks. Also, Mr. Schuester was depressed, drunk and still married to Terri. It turns out that Artie was the glue of Glee or something so there was no Glee without him. I'm pretty sure that Glee would've happened without Artie but whatever. To fix things, Artie calls everyone to the choir room and sings 'Feliz Navidad', I didn't really like this song choice. It doesn't matter though as Artie's performance fixed nothing. After this, Artie finds a wheelchair in the hallway. Rory tells Artie that it's Quinn's wheelchair as she still got in the car accident and died because without the Glee club's support she never made a recovery. Did they really have to bring the worst Glee storyline ever back up again? Ugh. Anyway, Artie sits on the wheelchair and his dream is over, he appreciates his wheelchair and the help of others more now.
In New York, Rachel is getting ready to leave for a holiday cruise with her dads and it looks like Kurt will be spending Christmas alone. However, Burt surprises Kurt when he comes to spend the holidays with his son in New York, he also brings a tree. I love how decorated Kurt and Rachel's apartment is, it's so cute. Also before Rachel leaves, Burt gives them an apple Christmas tree bauble to represent their first year in New York, so cute! Then Burt and Kurt have hot chocolate while they talk. Burt tells Kurt that he has prostate cancer but they've caught it early so it could be curable. This is so sad, I can't believe Burt is sick again. Back at the apartment, Burt gives Kurt his present which is Blaine. Kurt and Blaine go skating at Rockefeller Center while they sing 'White Christmas' which is a much better song selection.
At McKinley, Jake gets in a fight at school and Puck breaks it up, yay Puck is home for Hanukkah! Puck then invites Jake to spend the holidays with him in L.A., Jake accepts and the brothers visit Paramount Studios where they sing 'Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah'. While they sing this the brothers explore the Paramount lot. Then Puck takes Jake to a house that he claims is his own but he's busted when the real owner arrives home. The boys decide to go back to Lima in time for Christmas and spend the day with their mothers at Breadstix. There's a problem though, Puck's mother hates Jake's mother but the boys help them to sort out their issues.
Next up, Brittany gets in the holiday spirit by giving all her friends expensive gifts. She's only this as she has found out about the Mayan Apocalypse. Sam admits that he's also a believer and this is why these two are perfect for each other. So they both call everyone together to tell them their brutal truths about the gang. The club gets real angry and leaves so Sam sings 'Jingle Bell Rock' to Brittany, did anyone else think of 'Mean Girls'? Then Sam proposes to Brittany because that apocalypse is a-coming! Coach Beiste performs the wedding ceremony, what is she thinking? She should know better but this is hilarious. Cut to December 22nd, everyone is alive and there was no apocalypse. Love how the writers are saying that the world won't end.
It's Secret Santa time for the McKinley staff and Sue is Marley's Mom's Secret Santa. In Sue's office, she tries to plan what to get Millie, she even says "what do you get the woman who has eaten everything?" This is so mean but also so funny. To find out more about the Rose family, Sue spies on them and finds out that they don't have much money this holiday season. Millie also asks Marley to perform 'The First Noel', I love Marley's voice so much. To help Marley's family out, Sue breaks into the Rose's house and leaves a tree with many presents, that was so nice of Sue.
Later, we catch up with everyone's individual storylines. We even find out that Brittany and Sam aren't actually married as Coach Beiste did know better. Although, I wish they had remained married for the rest of the season, that would have been funny. In New York, Blaine says that he's thinking about applying for NYADA next year meaning Kurt, Rachel and Blaine would all be in New York next season. Back at McKinley, Marley's mom makes me wanna cry when she tries to give the money back to Sue but Sue won't accept it. To make up for it, Millie invites Sue to listen to the Glee club perform 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' which was just perfect. I really enjoyed this episode of 'Glee', I think Marley's story was my favorite. Which did you like the most?
