The Vampire Diaries: The Killer Recap/Review

I feel like it would be hard for 'The Vampire Diaries' to top itself every week but 'The Killer' proves that this show just improves. I wish every show was up to this standard but that wouldn't make 'The Vampire Diaries so unique. We started this week with flashbacks to Connor's conversation with Professor Shane and in the present day we see that Connor has beheaded the hybrid he attacked last week and he's taking the wolf toxin from his mouth (that was kinda gross). Anyway, Professor Shane tells Connor to leave Bonnie out of it but Connor says that he will kill anyone who gets in his way. At the Mystic Grill, Jeremy is doing his first shift in forever, he hasn't worked there in so long that I thought they fired him. Connor then jumps out of nowhere and holds a knife against Jeremy's throat. Poor Jeremy, he really has no idea what's going on.

The show continues with the first diary entries that they've featured since season 1. I was so excited because I enjoyed the diary entries and I hope they are featured more this season. While in Italy, Klaus somehow found out that Connor escaped so he calls Stefan to tell him to find Connor, capture him again and keep him alive. Sounds easy, he's just a lethal vampire hunter, no big deal. Back at the Grill, Matt is setting up when April comes to ask if he has seen Rebekah (I'm so surprised that she noticed Rebekah was gone). This is when Connor appears and takes Jeremy, April and Matt hostage. Meanwhile, Elena and Damon are worried about Stefan because they haven't seen him recently; when Stefan doesn't answer his phone Elena begins to think that something is wrong. The hostage situation gets more tense when Connor sends a text from Matt's phone to Tyler, Stefan and Damon informing them about his latest plan.

Damon is also hatching a plan but his is to free the hostages and Stefan finally shows up. Elena agrees with Damon's plan to just kill Connor but we know that Stefan must keep him alive so he obviously tries to buy some time. Tyler is also helping and so is one of Klaus' hybrids. The too trusting Bonnie is visiting Professor Shane when all the good stuff is happening back at Mystic Falls. Professor Shane is attempting to help Bonnie get her powers back and he does this by hypnotizing her. This won't end well. Damon and Elena are at Alaric's old apartment trying to find maps of tunnels under Mystic Falls. The tunnels will lead them to the Mystic Grill so they can save their friends. Elena wants to help with the fight but Damon tells her that Connor doesn't know that she's a vampire and he would like to keep it like that. However, Elena shows Damon that she can fend for herself and Jeremy is all she has left so she needs to save him. Then Jeremy questions Connor about the conversation that they had, Jeremy can't remember that Klaus had him draw Connor's tattoo because he was compelled afterwards. Connor doesn't say much though, this guy is like a broken record "vampires, kill, vampires, tattoo needs to grow, vampires, kill, kill, vampires." When Stefan proposes a new plan to Damon he doesn't agree so Stefan can't afford Damon to be killing Connor, therefore he vervains Damon. Nap time.

Stefan starts off on his own mission without Elena. At Tyler's house, Tyler tries to convince Klaus' hybrid to stay away from Connor. Also, Haley and Caroline meet for the first time, they will not be fast friends as it's clear that Caroline is a tad jealous. Haley is over Caroline's insecurities and Haley tells her "I don't do teen dramas," I enjoyed that line because this is a teen drama. I didn't expect to see Haley in this episode so I was pleasantly surprised, there wasn't enough of her though. Matt and April try to make their escape while Connor is busy with Jeremy out front. During this scene, April confesses that her father used to tell her scary stories about vampires, her dad sounds so fun I mean normal dads tell fairy-tales but April's dad scared the hell out of her from a young age. Matt's way out is blocked by a brick wall so he tries to break it. Out front, a hybrid tries to get in to save the gang but Connor has set up booby traps that explode when the hybrid enters.

Stefan makes his way into the Grill from the tunnel that is connected to the wall that Matt broke through. He tells April and Matt to get out of there while he tries to free Jeremy too. Although, Connor spots him and Jeremy accidentally stands on a booby trap, if he moves off the trap then it will explode. Elena has been keeping a watchful eye over everything and when she sees the explosion from earlier she starts to get worried so she goes directly into the belly of the beast. Damon is starting to come out of his vervain trace when she leaves. Elena enters the Grill pretending to be an innocent human but when Connor turns the gun on Stefan so she goes for Connor's throat. Elena is so badass. Unfortunately the gun misfires on Jeremy and while Elena is fighting with Connor on the ground, Stefan gets Jeremy out of the way of the explosion. A worried Elena lets her guard down but before Connor has a chance to harm her, Stefan grabs him and makes a run for it.

To heal Jeremy, Elena feeds him her blood and Jeremy tells Elena about the hunter's tattoo. Elena had no idea about the tattoo and no idea that someone compelled Jeremy so she gets real angry. Stefan is in the tunnels with Connor when Damon catches up with them. Damon wants to kill Connor on the spot but Stefan tells him to run while he tries to distract Damon. However, Damon uses violence to get Stefan to tell him why he wants to keep Connor alive. Stefan does eventually spill the beans. But Elena finds Connor and she kills Connor from the anger she feels. Nooooooo, Elena! He had a freakin' map to the cure!

Remember Bonnie? Yeah she thinks that the Professor Shane's hypnotizing techniques aren't working but he tells her that they've been at it for seven hours. Girl lost track of time! In the woods, Elena is feeling real sad about killing Connor and all that. I liked that Elena felt sad about her first kill because this guy was a horrible person but she still thought it was morally wrong and she felt bad about herself for it. If Elena turned back into a human then could she live with all the bad things she did as a vampire? Caroline is mad at Tyler about the whole Haley thing but Tyler tells her that he just wants Klaus to think that he and Haley fooled around because they're trying to free the hybrids. In the town square, everyone is safe and sound, I think that April was compelled to forget about what Connor said about vampires. Jeremy then gives April his vervain bracelet, that was very kind of him but when he looks down he sees a tattoo that wasn't there before. Oh no. When Damon questions Stefan about why he wants Elena to have the cure, Stefan says that it's not for selfish reasons. Cut to Elena who starts seeing blood everywhere and that blood wasn't there before. The word 'killer' is even written in blood on Elena's mirror. But when Elena slips on some blood she stands up to see that there isn't actually any blood. Is Elena going crazy? I hope so!

Overall episode score:-
'The Killer' = A+
