Glee: Sadie Hawkins Recap/Review

'Sadie Hawkins' is the name of 'Glee's returning episode because it revolves around a Sadie Hawkins dance which means the girls of McKinley get to pick their dates. I love, love, loved this episode, it was so fun and they were able to blend all the storylines very well this week. Also, the new storylines are really good so I was very happy and surprised by this episode. We start back after the winter break with Sam questioning The Warblers' win at sectionals, he thinks that they somehow cheated. Then we see a little bit of a spark when Sam asks Blaine for some lip balm. After this, the guys have to go to a McKinley Student Council meeting in which Tina says that they should have a Sadie Hawkins dance. One of Tina's main reasons for wanting to hold a dance is to help her fellow members of the 'Too Young to be Bitter Club'. Lauren Zizes (remember her? I missed her), Becky Jackson, Sugar and Tina are all part of this club. Tina's campaigning is a success when the student council passes her motion but Blaine doesn't seem too stoked.

In New York, Kurt realizes that NYADA is just like high school as it has the same hierarchy system so he has to join a club to fit in. I didn't like the fact that college is being portrayed as the same as high school, 'Gossip Girl' tried to do that in season 3 and look what happened there. Although, nothing bad resulted from this storyline so we'll see where it all goes. Kurt spots a poster for 'Adam's Apples' which is a show choir but he takes some time to think it over. In the teacher's lounge of McKinley, Coach Beiste tells Finn to incorporate the Sadie Hawkins dance into his Glee club lesson. This is done by having the girl members sing to the boy they would like to take to the dance and then asking them. Back in New York, Rachel has her first sleepover with Brody and then has a chat with Kurt afterwards. She warns him to not join 'Adam's Apples' because it'll make him very unpopular at NYADA. Cut to McKinley, Tina sings her solo in Glee club in order to ask a certain fellow to the dance. She sings 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', her pipes are awesome in this song and through montage we learn that Tina is in love with Blaine. You know he's gay, Tina, right? She then asks him to the dance but he declines. This is awkward and kinda mean of Blaine.

Kurt is still trying to decide whether or not to join 'Adam's Apples' when the founder and leader of the group, Adam, tries to encourage him to sign up. He leads Kurt to a group rehearsal where they sing an arrangement of 'Baby Got Back'. This is a weird take on the song that I haven't heard before but I'm kinda digging it. At McKinley, Brittany tries to help Marley bag Jake as a date for the dance by having the New Directions girls sing 'Tell Him'. I completely loved this and I really liked Marley and Brittany's chemistry, they should be in more scenes together. After the song, Marley asks Jake to the dance and he says yes! But Kitty tries to get Jake to dump Marley even though they're friends now. I'm hating on Kitty big time with a lot of passion.

Tina gets to the bottom of why Blaine won't go to the dance with her when he says that he likes someone else and he doesn't want to go to a dance just to see everyone acting like couples and then realizing that he can't have that. Fair enough. Also, he admits to her that it's Sam who he likes. At this point, I see that Tina and Blaine's situations are very similar this episode. They decide to go to the dance together anyway because of how they're both in unrequited love scenario. I feel like it would be great if this all panned out with Blaine and Tina being best friends like Kurt and Rachel.

The Puckerman brothers discuss who Jake should take to the dance, the sweet Marley or the dastardly Kitty with all her sexual advances. Puck actually gives his little brother some good advice when he tells him to just take Marley as Kitty isn't worth it. On the streets of New York, Kurt and Rachel talk about love because he has a major crush on Adam. It's weird (but also good) that Kurt and Blaine are moving on. Moving back to Puck, he sticks up for Jake when he tells Kitty to back off but she then wants Puck to take her to the dance and as she says "I'm a mean, hot, bitch that likes to get what she wants." This is the only Kitty line that I like so far, might they finally be redeeming this horrible character? The dance begins later with the New Directions boys singing 'No Scrubs', I love this nostalgia filled song.

While dancing, Marley tells Jake that he has to be all in for a relationship with her or there will be no relationship at all. Meanwhile, the 'Too Young to be Bitter Club' haven't got no dates for the dance so Coach Beiste gives them a pep talk and tells them to go ask some hot young dudes to dance. This scene is cross-cut with Kurt asking Adam on a date, I loved this scene because it was done so well. On the dance floor, Tina gets real close with Blaine and almost kisses him when Sam breaks it up to take Blaine to an emergency meeting.

Continuing the dance festivities, the Glee girls sing 'Locked Out of Heaven' which is a great, upbeat performance. While dancing with Puck, Kitty shows a nice side for once and it seems like she might really like him. In the boys locker room, Sam and Blaine meet with Finn as they have evidence that The Warblers have been using steroids. They even have a Warblers member testifying for them. This is a good storyline for the New Directions to get back into the show choir competition and it's one we haven't seen before. At Rachel's apartment, she prepares dinner for Brody but he's forty-five minutes late so she loses it when he finally arrives. You go Rachel! Show him who's boss! Brody apologizes and she forgives him but he also says that he wants to move in with her, whoa slow down there Brody! Back at the dance, Ryder sings 'I Only Have Eyes for You' (a fine performance) when Jake tells Marley that he's all in for a relationship. Also, Blaine apologizes to Tina for running out earlier and the two share a dance. The next day, the girls of the 'Too Young to be Bitter Club' cancel the club as the Sadie Hawkins dance cured their bitterness. That finishes another episode of 'Glee' and perhaps the best episode this season, so far.
