Gossip Girl: It's Really Complicated Recap/Review

'Gossip Girl' was a little late with its Thanksgiving installment this week titled 'It's Really Complicated'. But this was a very exciting episode and it seems like things are finally starting to heat up on the Upper East Side. Although at the start of the episode Blair is planning to leave the UES to spend Thanksgiving in Paris with her mother. It seems like Blair flees when things get hard in her life. Meanwhile, Serena and Dan are planning their own Thanksgiving this year which Lily won't be able to attend as her and Bart are going on a romantic getaway. This isn't bad news though because Serena and Dan can now invite Chuck, Nate and Rufus saying as the dastardly duo won't be around. But Chuck has been living in his bed since his plans to ruin his father fell through. Blair is all set for Paris when Serena comes to invite her to Thanksgiving. At first Blair opposes the idea of spending a holiday with Humphrey but she turns this occasion into a scheme and I love a good Blair Waldorf scheme. Her plan is to break up Dan and Serena with the help of Sage and Steven. Blair tells Sage that Nate will take her back if she undoes the mess that is Serena and Steven's relationship. In the park, Georgina (who looks glorious) tries to pressure Dan into giving her the Serena chapter. But Dan tells Georgina that she isn't his editor to which she says; "I am your everything." You're my everything Georgina, I love you. Anyway, Georgina fears that Dan's Serena chapter might be a love letter so she stops at nothing to get it. While Dan is leaving he gets a call from Serena who runs into Steven and Sage at the grocery store. We then learn that Bruce, that guy from a couple of episodes back, is dead. This is suspicious as he was one of the people to know about Bart's dirty dealings and he died when he fell off a Bass boat and drowned. Chuck is unmotivated when Nate tells him all this because he feels like there will be no way to take Bart down without there being a loophole. Outside The Empire, Blair tries to get in but the doorman tells her that she's not welcome according to Chuck. That's kinda harsh Chuck.

Back at the grocery store, Serena learns that Steven and Sage are going to have a very pathetic Thanksgiving so she invites them over. That's nice of Serena and all but I would never invite Steven and Sage to my house, they're freaks. Blair meets with Nate outside The Empire to come up with a plan to take down Bart and get Chuck involved. In Brooklyn, Rufus gives Dan some advice: 'Once an outsider, always an outsider.' I mean you would think that this family would have learned their lesson by now, look at Jenny Humphrey, Rufus Humphrey and now Dan. Anyway, Georgina is still trying to get that Serena chapter, she even tracks down the assistant to the editor of Vanity Fair who tells Georgina that there is two Serena chapters, Dan just has to pick one to publish. Blair finally gets into The Empire by seducing the doorman while wearing a revealing pilgrim outfit. It also works for Chuck who is very inspired all of sudden. This scene actually reminded me of when Blair used to dress up for Chuck in season 3, I really like the chemistry between them in this episode. We then find out that Lily and Bart will not be going away because of a tropical storm.

Dan is kind of upset about Serena inviting Steven to Thanksgiving but Serena is drunk this episode so she doesn't care. Blair and Chuck arrive at the van der Woodsen penthouse and they are both shocked to see Lily and Bart still floating around. Nate is also shocked by the addition of Sage but when he sees Bart he runs upstairs and takes Sage with him. Dan and Steven then have a spat about Serena while Blair watches on very proud of the dispute. Although she's called to duty when Chuck tries to leave. Blair convinces him to stay when she tells him that they will be able to take down Bart if Lily believes them. She also has the help of Jack Bass as she asked him for passwords to Bart's server and Nate is currently trying them all on Bart's computer, so they go off to work on that. While they leave, Georgina enters to talk to Dan. I love how Georgina always just waltzes in to crash a party. Georgina is onto Dan, she knows that he wrote two chapters, one being a love letter and the other being the truth about Serena. Dan makes the decision to publish one of the chapters.

Blair plants doubts in Lily's mind when she tells her about Bruce's drowning. Meanwhile, Steven tries to tell Serena not to date Dan but she gets angry at him and it's time for Steven to leave now. Upstairs Chuck and Nate finally hack the Bass Industries server and Chuck finds his smoking gun. Also, you would think that Sage would leave with her father but she's too busy whoring it up with Nate. Chuck and Blair team up to deliver their information to Lily, who finally believes them. Bart isn't too happy but I am, I love a good take down. After this, Blair talks to Serena about Steven leaving. Serena tells Blair that Steven tried to get back together with her to which Blair replies: "oh, you must be in 7th Heaven", I love the reference they made here. Then Blair finally tells Serena her thoughts about Dan and what a "self-promoting hipster weasel" he is. However, Serena ignores Blair's warnings as she's in her own happy Thanksgiving world. Upstairs, Lily questions Bart about the deaths and he gets real violent so she backs off. At the dinner table, Dan's Serena chapter is released and it isn't flattering at all.

When Dan talks to Serena about the chapter, he tells her that it's all the truth and that he rigged the elevator to stop, he basically rigged the whole thing. Blair doesn't really throw the fact that she was right in Serena's face, instead they eat some pie. Lily then talks to Chuck and she seems to be taking his side until Bart arrives and she is back on Team Bart. Split personality much? As Dan is leaving Nate punches him while Blair gives him her best death stare. Oh well, I guess Rufus was right... The outsider gets kicked to the curb again. Although Bart loved Dan's Serena chapter and so he gives Dan his number if Dan ever wants/needs anything.

Lily informs Bart that she'll be leaving to take a trip, she needs to relax after the Thanksgiving mayhem. Nate then tells Sage that he changed The Spectator finance records on purpose and Bart knows so he's coming after Nate. Bart makes a call to Nate telling him to come to Bart's office in the morning or else. Rufus basically says 'I told ya so' to Dan but Dan says that he has a plan and it's working. After this, Lily tells Chuck that she's on his side but she's afraid of Bart so she's getting out of town but she's still going to help. Chuck tells this to Blair and they get ready for war. This is happening when Serena is feeling lonely again so she calls Steven who ignores her call, why is Serena so desperate? We then see Dan writing the final chapter. What's to come? I guess we'll find out soon...
