Pretty Little Liars: She's Better Now (Winter Premiere) Recap/Review

It's been far too long since the last time we saw the liars but thankfully they returned this week with 'She's Better Now'. An episode in which Mona finally got out of the nut house and made her reappearance at Rosewood High. Although, she stopped in with Hanna the night prior to ask her a favor. Somehow Mona entered Hanna's house while everyone was sleeping in order to talk to her. If I were Hanna then I would have freaked out but she really has no time because Mona starts asking Hanna to basically take care of her at school as everyone else will be against her. Outside on the streets of Rosewood there's a figure that looks like 'A' who's riding around on a skateboard but this person then gets chased by Toby (an actual member of The 'A' Team) so this leads me to believe that the person on the skateboard isn't one of the many 'A's running around. The next day, Emily's dad has an alarm system set up that can only be controlled by an app on his phone. Also, Emily's parent's have put a strict curfew on her which means she can't take part in Rosewood's nighttime charity run. They kinda need to chill, don't murders happen like every week in Rosewood? Over at the Rear Window Brew, Aria and Spencer grab some coffee before school while they discuss Mona and all the over loose ends in this show. It's confusing trying to hold onto all the pieces of this puzzle. Also, Spencer asks Aria if she ever questioned her dad about being in a relationship with Alison but Aria is super touchy and doesn't want to talk about it. While Hanna's getting ready for school, she receives a basket full of muffins from 'M' meaning 'Mona'. Hanna is less than thrilled so she talks to her grandma about it. By the way, Hanna's grandma is in this episode which is awesome because I love Hanna's wacky grandma. Anyway, she gives Hanna some advice by convincing her that people can change. The girls all meet outside school to talk about the Mona situation; Emily believes that they should keep Mona close to find out more information and I agree. However, Aria disagrees as she thinks that Mona is still trouble. Inside, Aria tells Emily that he life is real tough right now because she hasn't told Ezra about his son and she can't look at her dad without thinking about what Garrett said. Things only get worse for Aria when she finds out that Meredith is going to be her teacher for the term. In her first class with Meredith, Aria gets in trouble for using her phone which Meredith takes off her. Afterwards, Meredith asks Aria to stay so Hanna, Spencer and Emily also stay behind while Meredith tells them all off. I feel like the girls should just attack her, I hate Meredith so much. In the school hall, Hanna catches up with Mona but things get bad when Mona opens her locker and finds a cow brain stuck to a knife and a note that says "takes one mad cow to know another." Mona walks down the hallway with the knife and then throws both brain and knife in the trash. She looks seriously crazy right now, I would start running if I saw Mona with a knife. Then she stops to whisper something to a limping Lucas who won't tell Hanna what Mona said.

In the girl's room, Emily points out that people are going to think that they did that to Mona. Although, Spencer tells her that they were with Meredith but Emily says "see ya in jail" (laughing so hard at Emily) if Meredith's supposed to be their alibi. Before the girls can talk more, Mona enters and they ask her if she thinks it was them that pulled that stunt. However, Mona says that she knows it isn't them because she helped them uncover Nate as Maya's killer. Did we know that Mona helped? The long break makes me forget things. Also Mona says that she's better now but is she really? In the courtyard, Hanna and Caleb ponder the possibility of Mona putting the brain in the locker herself. Also, Hanna asks Caleb to talk to Lucas about the limp and if it had anything to do with Halloween because if it did then Lucas was the person that tried to kill Aria. Back inside, Emily sees Harold the guy who works at the Lost Woods Resort moonlighting as a janitor. Toby and Spencer eat lunch outside and we find out that Jenna transferred school, this is new information, does this mean that there's no more Jenna? Additionally, Spencer spots Jason hugging Mona and she gets real pissed. Inside again, Emily enlists Hanna to help her find out what's up with Harold so they sneak down to the janitor's office. When the girls peak in they see a box of Mona's 'A' stuff but they make a break for it when Herold over hears them. After school Aria goes to see Ezra who gives her some sort of lucky necklace that will help her with the nighttime run. She then gets a text from Hanna that tells her about Harold now working at Rosewood High so Aria has to go have a meeting with the other liars. On her way out, Aria finds a hamper basket outside Ezra's apartment filled with baby goodies and a balloon that says "it's A boy!" There's also a threatening note attached that asks Aria when she'll start talking.

When Spencer is on a run with Toby she stops to talk to Jason about Mona. Although, Jason doesn't want to hear it, he believes in the benefit of the doubt. At the Rear Window Brew, Aria is being very sassy about 'A's latest message but they then start talking about Mona and Harold. They decide to break into Harold's office after hours. Caleb then comes to join the party and he shows the girls Mona's transcript, apparently Mona begged to go back to Rosewood High. However, Mona told Hanna earlier in the episode that her parents were forcing her return to the school; lies, lies and more lies. After this, Aria and Hanna talk about Ezra's child, Hanna says to Aria that she needs to tell Ezra because she knows how Caleb feels about not knowing his father. Meanwhile, Toby and Spencer have a steamy hot tub session while she obsesses over Jason and Mona. I feel really scared for Spencer every time she's around Toby now that we know he's part of The 'A' Team. Another liar who I'm frightened for is Aria because Byron has been acting real creepy lately, especially when Aria started asking how he felt about Alison. Side note: I. Marlene King (executive producer) has said that another character will be coming out as gay on the show, in this scene Byron asks why the house is so quiet and Aria says that "Mike went to Wyatt's to study." I'm predicting that Mike will be the character coming out, I hope I'm right.

Mona begins 'campaigning' for friendship when she sends out a video in which she tells her sob story. Hanna's grandma is not impressed, she feels like Mona is "twisted" and "trying way too hard." I trust her opinions and so should Hanna. Lucas then arrives to drop off money for Caleb, Hanna asks him about his leg and he says that he got in an accident while skateboarding. Is Lucas the 'A' like figure that Toby was chasing at the beginning of the episode? Hanna begins asking Lucas more about Mona and he only tells her that she has been sneaking out. At the Rosewood nighttime charity run, Caleb and Aria bond over their hatred for Mona and they talk about Caleb's relationship with his father. I love Aria and Caleb hanging out like this and it really helped Aria with her Ezra problems. The run is about to begin but Hanna's grandma gets up to grab the mike and sing the national anthem first, this was pretty funny. Spencer, Aria and Hanna decide to go to the school while everyone else is running so they can get into Harold's office. Hanna then makes a confession when she tells them that she thinks Mona was on the Halloween train. At Emily's house, she's on lock down but she gets all sneaky and switches her phone with her dad's so she can disable the alarm, get out of the house and break into Harold's office.

The other liars find Emily trying to break into the janitor's office with no luck so Spencer decides to give her some help. When they do get in, they find Alison's diary that was in the motel room. It's about time they found Ali's diary. Outside, Mona spies a very perky Meredith but cut back inside because it's time for a flashback... Alison threatens Byron with her knowledge of his relationship with Meredith and he gets violent with her... Back in the present the liars hear a noise so Aria tears the page out of the diary and they try to get out of the office. However, they run into Harold and he tries to take the page off Aria. Thankfully Toby shows up so Aria gets away with the page. Outside the school, a fire starts in a Rosewood High shed.

Emily gets into trouble for sneaking out and she learns that Meredith was hurt in the fire. Byron fills Aria in on Meredith's health and he hands her a note that asks Meredith to go to the shed. Both Bryon and Meredith feel that the liars set her up, but how could Byron think this? These girls aren't killers! Byron gets real heated with Aria, it's kinda scary. She then calls Spencer who has been talking to Jason about Mona again and it seems like he gets it. Aria tells Spencer that 'A' set them up and Spencer thinks that Mona had something to do with it. Then we see Mona helping Jason (I guess he didn't get it) with a wound that perhaps he got on a train during Halloween? The final image of the night is of 'A' taking apart some kid's bike. The guy then rides the bike and it breaks on him but what does this have to do with anything? I guess we'll find out next week. I'm so happy to have 'Pretty Little Liars' back again and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of this season. I hope y'all are as excited as I am cause here we go!

Overall episode score:-
'She's Better Now' = A+
