The Vampire Diaries: After School Special Recap/Review

'The Vampire Diaries' (and Rebekah) returned this week with 'After School Special' an episode in which Rebekah went to extreme measures to catch up on all she had missed while she was daggered. The episode begins at Carole's memorial being held at the high school, I kinda forgot Carole was dead (R.I.P.) Tyler is pissed off with life so he walks out of the assembly while Elena spots Rebekah and follows her out into the hallway. We also learn that the new mayor of Mystic Falls is some dude named Rudie Hopkins. In the halls, Elena hears someone crying and discovers April who admits she knows that Elena is a vampire. Then very sneakily, Rebekah snaps Elena's neck, this school is mayhem. Some time later, Elena wakes up in the school library to find April and Rebekah waiting. I've missed Rebekah so much, she's a true badass. At the lake house, Damon and Matt are helping Jeremy to be the best vampire hunter/slayer ever but he's not very good at it. Back in town, Stefan gets a call from Rebekah telling him that she has kidnapped Elena and they're in the school library so Stefan calls Caroline for backup. Also, we learn that the new mayor is actually Bonnie's dad and he's trying to protect the town from all the evil. At school, Rebekah captures Stefan within a minute and Caroline under five seconds. Caroline is seriously pathetic this season, I don't even know what's wrong with her.

In the library, Rebekah explains that she has compelled all her captives and she is using them to get information. After a short quiz on everything we already know, Rebekah learns that Elena and Stefan broke up and that Elena slept with Damon. Speaking of Damon, he's still trying to get Jeremy to be a better hunter when Klaus shows up to help grow the mark. Back in the library, a lot is admitted regrading Elena's feelings towards Damon which is basically that she's in love with him. After that, Stefan tells Rebekah that Shane will lead her to the cure. Cut to Shane and Bonnie, she is ranting to him about her father which is just weird because she should talk to her friends who have none her all her life and know about her situation but nope she goes to talk to the creepy professor instead. Anyway, Shane gives Bonnie a necklace made out of human bone because she's done learning about expression magic and this necklace will help her or something. Truthfully, I wasn't paying attention because I'm very disappointed in Bonnie's choices. On her way out, Bonnie sees Kol walk into Shane's office. It takes her a hot minute to recognize him and by the time she does, Shane is gone. The Originals mean business this episode.

A sulking Tyler gets a call from Rebekah to tell him that she is holding Caroline hostage, this puts Tyler into hero mode. Kol then shows up to the party with Shane. In the woods, Klaus reveals that he has done something to make Jeremy's training go a little bit fast. He has turned an unsuspecting pizza delivery bimbo into a raging vampire. Back at school, Shane tells Rebekah that he can't be compelled to tell her where the cure is so she has to torture it out of him instead. Rebekah then starts a round of truth or dare with her prisoners. While playing the game, Elena admits that she loves Stefan but she's not in love with him anymore. Harsh, but she was compelled. Tyler then shows up and Rebekah compels him into transforming into a werewolf but if he turns then he'll kill the others. Also she tells the vamps that they can't use vampire speed to get anyway from Tyler. Shit just got real!

The pizza bimbo attacks Matt at the lake house and Jeremy has to kill her thus making his mark grow. At the high school, Bonnie finds April in a chemistry room and April spills all about what's going on. So to save Shane from torture, Bonnie casts a protection spell. However, the pain Shane is enduring begins affecting April instead. Shane then tells Kol and Rebekah about wanting to bring that immortal witch back to life so Kol shoves a pipe through him. Also he admitted to being the cause for the creepy pastor blowing up all those peeps in the season premiere. Of course the pipe doesn't kill Shane but April starts bleeding all over the floor. Meanwhile Tyler starts turning in the library, this scene reminded me of that scene in 'Teen Wolf' when they're all trapped in the library and there's some kind of monster (I forget, was it Jackson?) The gang split up with Stefan helping Elena to barricade a door which stops Tyler from getting them. Shane plays dead until he's left alone and then pulls the pipe out. Then Elena finds April and Bonnie, Stefan gives April some vampire blood to cure her and then he tells Bonnie and April to leave. Tyler isn't a threat anymore as Caroline finds him in human form lying beside his mother's memorial in the school's gym. In the chemistry room, Rebekah finds Stefan and Elena and she asks Elena if she wants Rebekah to compel Stefan to forget her. Elena gets upset when Stefan says that's what he wants but Rebekah doesn't do it because she wants Stefan to live with the pain.

Bonnie is pissed when she finds out that expression is basically magic without limits as she almost killed April. Although, Shane says that it's fine and she's cool with it then. After this, Elena calls Damon to tell him about Stefan. Also Elena tells him that she loves him and then he asks her to come see him. This scene is so good, I love how 'New York' by Snow Patrol played because it's such a good song. At the Salvatore manor, Stefan and Rebekah decide to team up to find the cure when Stefan tells her that Shane is still alive. At the Mystic Grill, April has a meeting with Sheriff Forbes and the new mayor because she's real concerned about how this town is a mecca for evil. Lastly, Klaus asks Matt, Damon and Jeremy to meet him at a bar full of new vampires so Jeremy can kill them all and grow that mark. This episode of 'The Vampire Diaries' had many shocking and heartfelt moments so basically it was perfect! I can't wait to see what the last half of this season has in store.

Overall episode score:-
'After School Special' = A+
