9O21O: We're Not Not In Kansas Anymore Recap/Review

Get ready for a nightmarish experience on '9O21O' because that's what this week's 'We're Not Not In Kansas Anymore' episode was about. If you remember from last episode, Annie got shot so she has been rushed to the hospital where her friends meet to worry about her. Naomi thinks that she should tell Max about their friend's accident so she calls him up to find out that he hasn't been in Iceland. Then Dixon hears Adrianna say that she told Ashley that Vanessa was back in Beverly Hills. He obviously starts blaming her for his sister being shot. But seriously though, they all trusted Ashley so it's not Adrianna's fault, Dixon is being an idiot. Before Annie goes into surgery, she tells Liam that he would be better off if he never met her. Cue the alternative universe in which Annie never left Kansas... In this world, Annie's high school boyfriend, Jason, wakes her up because she has fallen on the floor while rehearsing for 'The Wizard of Oz'.

Annie learns that she's a pretty big theater star in Kansas. Also, she and Jason are engaged. When she wakes up the next morning, Annie is seriously freaked so she tries to call Dixon but Jason tells her that no-one knows Dixon's number because he moved to L.A. after a big family fight. But she doesn't take no for an answer so Jason gives her an address that they have for Dixon. Annie then flies to L.A. to discover that Dixon's house is actually Naomi's house in the real world. However, Naomi is poor in this world so she can't afford a house like this because Jen conned her out of all her money. But she is the realtor for this open house. Annie tries to talk to Dixon, who is a famous rapper in this world, while Naomi shows her around but the girls just get thrown out. For some reason Naomi takes Annie under her wing. She even gives us some information like how in this world Dixon and Adrianna are dating. In addition, Adrianna is famous because she got the discovered playing the lead role in 'Spring Awakening' (season 1 reference). Elsewhere, Adrianna meets with Silver but not for a friendly catch up. Silver is the same bitch she was in season 1 and she still has her blog but this time her blog is like Perez Hilton. Adrianna is meeting with Silver because she has a video of Adrianna that could ruin her public image. Silver ain't giving in though and I actually like this version of Silver better, she's not as annoying. However, Silver tells Adrianna that she won't release the dirt she has if Adrianna can get her something bigger. At the CU campus, Naomi tells Annie that she plans to marry the biggest catch on campus, who happens to be Teddy. But Liam is also enrolled here.

Liam invites Annie and Naomi to a club opening which Dixon will be at. Then Annie finds out that Ty is also still in the Beverly Hills fold. But he's still a major asshat. Liam owes Ty money and he can't repay him so Ty makes Liam steal drugs from his step dad's (who is also still in the story) medical practice for Navid who is Dixon's lapdog. Later at the club opening, Silver makes it known to Teddy that she knows he's gay. This Silver is a stone, cold, bitch and I love it. Outside the club, Noami and Annie have trouble getting in so they have Adrianna get them past security. Adrianna believes that Annie is Dixon's sister because she shows her a holiday photo of her and a dorky looking Dixon. But Adrianna asks to borrow this photo and Annie doesn't even seem suspicious. Inside, Adrianna gives Silver the picture in hopes that Silver won't release the video she has on Adrianna. Meanwhile, Annie tries to talk to Dixon but he just tells her to take a hike.

Naomi is on the prowl for a certain Montgomery who leads her astray. Outside the club, Annie calls for a cab to take her back to the airport but she trips and her phone falls down a grate. Liam witnesses this so he tries to help her. At Naomi's apartment, Teddy tells her that he knows she's a gold digger but he wants her to be his beard. Meaning she gets a lot of money and the publicity of being in a relationship with Teddy Montgomery but they don't actually have to be in a relationship and he can live his gay life in secret. Naomi doesn't seem to mind these terms so she's all in. Back at the club, Ty tells Navid that he's got the drugs but Navid don't want them drugs and Ty gets thrown out. On the sidewalk, Liam is still working on that grate when Ty is being escorted out, he points to Liam and tells the cops that he was the one with the drugs so Liam gets arrested. Then Silver sends out the dorky photo of Dixon which makes him lose all his street cred. But Silver also sends out the dirt she's got on Adrianna because Silver don't care. Dixon finds Annie to thank her for ruining his life again. So Annie returning to Beverly Hills just made everyone's lives worse. I thought the point of these stories was to show that the character was missed when they weren't part of the world they knew.

Silver, Dixon, Liam and the rest of the crew all receive mysterious envelopes. The gang is told to assemble at the beach where Annie has brought them all together. Why would they all even show up? After this, Annie gives a big speech about how they could all do better and then everything's fine. While talking to Liam, Jason shows up to bring her back to Kansas but she tells him that she belongs in Beverly Hills. Cue Annie waking up in the real world... Annie tells the gang about her misadventures in the alternative universe. This leads Dixon to semi-apologize to Adrianna, Naomi to seek out Max and Silver to try to make things right with Teddy but things backfire for Silver when Teddy finds out what she did before she gets the chance to explain. Finishing this terrible episode, we see that Liam now has anger issues because of everything that went down with Vanessa, Ashley and Annie. This is something that has been done to death. For example, Peyton Sawyer had to deal with fighting off her demons in 'One Tree Hill' after an attack from Psycho Derek and in 'The O.C.' Ryan Atwood had anger issues concerning Marissa Cooper's death. Anyway back to the point, this was a really bad episode. I liked the references to old seasons (especially season 1) but there was no mention of the guy that Annie killed. This made me really angry because Annie killed someone and if she never came to Beverly Hills then that would mean that he would still be alive. If I were Annie then I would want to go see that man. Additionally, what's the point in having an 'It's a Wonderful Life'-type episode if it's not a Christmas special? Whatever, crappy, crappy episode.

Overall episode score:-
'We're Not Not In Kansas Anymore' = D-
