9O21O: Life's a Beach Recap/Review

There has been some very important '9O21O'-related news recently, if you haven't heard then where have you been? Yep, it's true, the show has finally been canceled. Rejoice Teen Drama addicts! Although, it's not over yet as there's still seven episodes left to recap and review for y'all, starting with 'Life's a Beach'. Which is an odd title because this episode starts on the beach with Liam telling Dixon and Navid that he wants to open a surf shop. Okay, everything sounds good, solid plan. Oh wait, it'll be a surf shop just for girls. I was liking this idea up until he said that because he has now cut out half the amount of people that he will be able to sell surfboards to. But later the surf shop idea turns into more of a brand so it's okay again as a brand seeks a wider audience. After Liam has told the guys this, he runs into a surfer chick, named Sydney, who wants to invest. Later, Dixon finds out that he is able to make a music video for Michaela but they need to work fast. Thankfully, Silver agrees and allows the music video to go ahead. For some reason, Silver and Michaela were kinda close in this episode. At Naomi's house, Mark holds a tasting party for just the girls and he reveals that he might be moving to New York because there's big opportunities there. Naomi isn't too happy when she hears about this. On the CU campus, Navid finds a bulletin for a major global marketing firm that is looking for a trainee. Campbell spots this so he tries to make Navid feel like he doesn't stand a chance. After the tasting party, Naomi tells Annie that she wants to pimp Adrianna out to Mark so he'll stay in Beverly Hills. Annie is totally against this and tries to convince Naomi that it's a bad idea. At Liam's surf shop, he's busy making Sydney a surfboard when she stops by so they decide to get busy.

Naomi doesn't listen to Annie, instead she goes ahead with her plan to serve Ade up like a sweet stack of pancakes! (that was an interesting simile). At Navid's job interview, he pretty much bombs but he doesn't want Campbell to win so on the way out, Navid spies a picture of the boss with his daughter and some surfboards. Meanwhile, Annie finds out about Sydney when she calls for Liam, Annie answers but he doesn't want to talk to Sydney. Why is Liam so dense? It's obvious that Annie likes him. Then Mark arrives home and tells Annie that Adrianna was prancing around Naomi's house in swimwear when Naomi called him over to fix a printer. Annie sees what Naomi's trying to do! At the music video shoot, Silver gets a call that says Michaela has to do the IVF procedure the following day. This is bad for Dixon because they still need to shoot the video, he shouldn't be mad though as he knew that Michaela was doing this procedure at some point.

Navid asks Liam if he can promote the surfboards as a way to impress the boss. Afterwards, Silver and Dixon talk about the music video, his record label is sinking so he really needs to make the video. I don't care about Dixon or his record label though. Then Annie is so mad at Naomi about breaking the promise to not meddle that she gives Naomi the definition of 'promise'. Did Annie change her name to 'Webster'? It doesn't stop there though, Annie calls Naomi a meddling 'bitch' and that's why she lost Max. Too far, Annie! But I am hoping for an Annie/Naomi fight, it's been too long.

Liam talks to Sydney about how he finds everything awkward but she reveals that she's married so she doesn't want to date him. Instead she wants to keep things casual with him. On the beach, Silver tries to make it up to Dixon by having Michaela perform at the surf shop opening. However, he's just being an asshat. Inside, Navid finds the boss who seems pleased with the 'Gnarly Girl' surfboard brand that Liam and Navid have created. I feel like Ivy would be loving this if she weren't in Mexico somewhere. Also, didn't this brand happen a little too fast? Why does everything happen so fast in '9O21O'-land, it's not realistic! Anyway, Annie tries to get Dixon to bag on Adrianna to Mark so that Mark will see that Ade is too much too handle. But Naomi finds out about this and it's Annie and Naomi who start putting Adrianna down. Ade walks in while they're saying all these nasty things about her and I actually feel bad for her, it's kinda horrible.

Annie and Naomi realize that they only fight because they're as close as sisters. Ugh! I was hoping for a big fight but I liked the sister sentiment, even if it was phony. Inside The Offshore, Liam tells Mark that Naomi will be crushed if he goes to New York, while outside Michaela performs. Silver has even put together a flash mob and is recording the whole thing so Dixon can use the footage in a music video. In addition, Michaela rides upon one of the 'Gnarly Girl' surfboards while guys carry her so that brand is being promoted too. I felt like I was watching the 'Hannah Montana' movie for a second. Elsewhere, the girls make up with Adrianna by being self-deprecating so she forgives them.

Mark tells Naomi that he won't be going to New York because he wants to be with his sister. Also in The Offshore, Adrianna alludes to a Silver/Mark relationship. The next day, Navid gets the trainee job and rubs it in Campbell's face. At Dixon's apartment, Michaela gets a call which has her learn that she's pregnant. Shouldn't Silver have gotten the call though? Lastly, Liam wakes up at Sydney's place. On his way out, he discovers Sydney's stepson, Campbell, who is saying on the phone that he'll be setting Navid up for a grading scandal. This show is terrible but it wasn't as terrible this week as it normally is. I actually feel like I enjoyed it more this week because it's canceled. It's like being happy the last few days of an ending war because you know it's ending (that was another weird simile).

Overall episode score:-
'Life's a Beach' = D

6 more episodes to go...
