The Vampire Diaries: The Rager Recap/Review

The Vampire Diaries has been going so strong this season; it's one of my favorite shows this season and I'm always looking forward to a new episode each week. 'The Rager' brought it like the other episodes thus far. This episode begins at the hospital in Tyler's room (cause remember he got shot.) The Mystic Falls hospital must have the worst security ever because Connor gets past the security without much effort. He then pins Tyler down and gets some werewolf venom out of him. I think that Connor needs to chill and get a nicer hobby. Moving to Damon and Stefan, Damon tells Stefan that he's going to leave as Elena chose Stefan, but first Damon wants to kill Connor, fair enough. Over at Mystic Falls High, Elena has turned Matt into her own personal blood dispenser but he doesn't seem to mind (I really like Elena's outfit here.) Then Matt and Elena see a flyer that informs them of a mandatory curfew for all ages in light of the shooting; this kind of reminds me of 'Scream'. When Tyler gets out of the hospital, he finds out that Klaus has gathered a hybrid army to protect Tyler because Klaus doesn't want his hybrids dying. Back at school, Elena is feeling sad about being back in Alaric's history class without Alaric and then Rebekah enters to invite everyone to her anti-curfew party. Although it's not all fun cause Rebekah starts to brag to Elena about how she killed Alaric. Elena loses it and throws her pencil at Rebekah but Rebekah catches it and hits Elena back. Elena has gotten another pretty outfit all blood, what a drag. When Elena goes to clean up, some chick named Heather follows her into the bathroom. But Heather has blood dripping down the side of her neck, courtesy of Rebekah. What's your damage, Heather? Don't you know how Elena feels about blood? Rebekah decides that it's a good idea to rub Heather's blood over Elena's face because Connor has showed up at school. Woops. This wouldn't be the first time Elena has had to clean blood off her face while a vampire hunter waits outside.

However, Connor has taken Jeremy into an empty classroom to talk about the joys of hunting vampires. While Connor talks, Stefan listens outside. Connor tells Jeremy to bring him a vampire and then they can be vampire hunting besties forever. Damon on the other hand goes to Connor's humble abode to search for answers. But he gets caught in a trap and if he moves a bomb will go off. Another ticking time bomb is Elena, Stefan and Caroline talk about Elena's rage and how they need to help her control it. Caroline also says that Stefan should write a book on how to be a good vampire, I would read it. Over with Tyler, an old friend comes to visit and this old friend just so happens to be played by Phoebe Tonkin who you might know from The Secret Circle (this is the second time I've mentioned The Secret Circle this week, I miss it.) I find Phoebe Tonkin very enjoyable but this episode didn't give us much insight into who her character Haley is. Although, we are told that Haley helped Tyler to control his urges when he went away last season. Hey remember Meredith? Well Damon calls her to help him with the explosive situation he's in (I'm so funny.) I like that Damon called Meredith, I now officially ship them. A Damon/Meredith relationship would be perfect. Another relationship I would eventually like to see happen is Matt and Rebekah but hes still pissed at her for that whole running him off the bridge thing. So pissed in fact that he tells Connor that Rebekah is the vampire that has been biting him. In Matt's defense, Connor had him up against a wall, literary. How can Connor go around terrorizing the people of this town? I guess no-one cares.

When we come back, Elena frantically searches Damon's room for the white oak stake but Damon catches her in the act. Elena being Elena says that she's looking for Damon's bourbon because his is better than Stefan's. If that's true then why is she looking in the closet? Oh, Elena. The other Gilbert goes to see Connor and he sells Meredith out. I was really mad at Jeremy, how could he just float Meredith down the river, which leads to the waterfall, which lead to the rocks, which leads to death!? However, this is The Vampire Diaries and I shouldn't jump to conclusions. For some reason, Stefan and Elena think it's a good idea to attend Rebekah's party. While Tyler thinks it's a good idea to lie to Caroline and not tell her that Haley is here. But Klaus is wise to Tyler's tricks, that information will come in useful for Klaus. Back at the party, Elena is being a great role model when she offers April some beer; this is Elena's attempts at bonding. Rebekah has a slightly different approach, when she sees Elena she steals her daylight ring and throws it down the sink. That was a little uncalled for, Rebekah.

Elena seems to agree with me, so she gets to stake out of her bag and goes in search of payback. Unfortunately, spoil-sport Stefan comes to tell Elena to calm down and to think about what she's doing. If Elena kills Rebekah then Rebekah's whole bloodline will disappear. I forgot about this. So Elena and Stefan seek thrills by riding his motorcycle in a hilarious scene that follows. Meanwhile, Klaus uses the information on Tyler as leverage and when Damon calls to ask Tyler to help him kill Connor, Klaus volunteers instead. Speaking of, trader Jeremy then leads Connor to Meredith, who is at the hospital. It turns out to be a trap, actually it's the same trap that Connor caught Damon in earlier, oh the irony. I'm so sorry that I doubted you Jeremy! Forgive me! But has anyone noticed that one minute Jeremy seems like he's hiding something and then the next he looks like a lost puppy?

After Elena and Stefan's exciting ride they decide to take an exciting ride of other sorts. Although this is cut short when Elena sees Damon on top of her instead of Stefan (this made me think of season 1.) It turns out that she was hallucinating and Stefan tells her that Damon said Connor had werewolf venom. Therefore, he got it in her system somehow but this confused me because we didn't see Connor and Elena interacting in this episode so far. But Rebekah has also been infected so all I can think is that Connor must have gotten it into the beer that was served at the party or just Elena's beer as Elena and Rebekah drank out of the same cup. While Elena hallucinates about Damon, Rebekah hallucinates that she kills Matt. I thought this was for real and I was so shocked and I loved it but then I was confused when Matt showed up again later. I figured it out eventually though. At the hospital, Connor has had enough of Damon so he just pulls the bomb and the room explodes. Before this though, Klaus says that Connor is "one of the five."

Over at the Salvatore's, Doctor Stefan calls Klaus over to give his blood to Elena so she can feel all better. Klaus agrees because he needs Elena alive as this ties into the whole Connor being one of the five thing. No one has cured Rebekah though but I think she can just get over it because she's naturally flawless and shes an original so wolf venom to Rebekah is an NBD. However, Rebekah still feels lonely so she commits to helping April get answers about the fire that her weirdo pastor dad started. Mayor Lockwood is delighted by the hospital explosion because that means Connor is dead but Meredith is anything but. She starts yelling at Damon to be more responsible, she also tells him to mend his relationship with Stefan and Elena. It's just tough love, I know Meredith loves Damon deep down. Anyway, Stefan calls Caroline over to talk about Elena again; Stefan is worried that if Elena is a bad vampire then he will be a bad vampire too and they'll basically be the vampire version of Bonnie and Clyde (I wouldn't mind that) but Caroline reassures him that she won't let that happen. I love Stefan and Caroline's friendship! Elena takes her friendship with Matt to a whole other level when she feeds on him and almost kills him. Damon saves them in time and he promises Elena that he will teach her to be an upstanding citizen in vampire society. In the last scene of the night, we find out that Connor is still alive because Klaus saved him. Also, Connor has no idea what being one of the five means but it's very important to Klaus. This has been a solid, twisty, turvy roller coaster ride of a season and it just keeps getting better. But I could use some more Haley, bring it!

Overall episode score:-
'The Rager' = A+
